chip shield drill press

I’ve enjoyed the tips I’ve received and thought I would send one along to share.

This is a tip for containing metal chips when operating the drill press. The photo should make the use and design clear. The simple shield can be cut from the bottom of a plastic tub or jar. Mine measures about 4″ in diameter and is 2-1/4″ high. I cut a hole at the top and a slot in the side to allow viewing and also allow room for brushing on cutting oil.

I find this simple little shield adds a measure of safety, plus convenience when it comes to cleaning up the area. I still wear goggles because it won’t catch everything, but I do appreciate not having hot chips fall on my hands.
